Swaziland Bans Mini-Skirts to Prevent Rape

As shown by Jitender Chhatar, who believes that fast food is a major cause of rape, people can come up with some pretty crazy ways to help prevent rape. Their hearts are definitely in the right place, but their methods are a bit silly, to say the least.
The most recent example of this silliness happened in Swaziland. In an effort to lower women’s risk of being victims of rape, local police officers stated that they will be enforcing a law which prohibits women from wearing rape-provoking clothing items. The main clothing item that has been discussed is mini-skirts, because wearing tiny skirts not only encourage people to undress you with their eyes, but they also give rapists easier access to your naughty bits.
“The act of the rapist is made easy, because it would be easy to remove the half-cloth worn by the women.” - Police Spokeswoman, Wendy Hleta
Also included in the ban are low-rise jeans and small shirts that reveal women’s bellies, although the last clothing item was most likely thrown in to help counter the terrible outbreak of muffin tops that has ravaged the nation. Trust me, no one wants to see that.
Probably the funniest/saddest part of this law was the reported punishment which was either a fine equal to about $10 or, if the skirt-wearing little slut can’t afford that, up to six months in jail. Talk about adding insult to injury. I’m not too up-to-date on the state of the Swahili economy, but I find it hard to believe that $10 would extremely difficult to acquire. If someone can’t afford it, throwing them in jail for six months seems like kind of a dick move. Imagine being thrown in jail because you put yourself in danger by not wearing your seat belt or something else along those lines. Harsh, right?
Local officials have stated that this report is rubbish and that the law will not be enforced. They stated that the law was against their constitution and that it is currently under review. Let’s hope they’re telling the truth. After all, the world can never have too many mini-skirts.
